Vacant City

Once Upon A Time In Vancouver....
With origins as diverse as their talents, Brendan Albert (guitars, vocals), Chris Barrett (bass, vocals) and Dana Pemberton (drums) were each on their individual roads to musical freedom. Little did they know, those paths would converge at the crossroads of Vacant City. Formed in late 2007, the forces of nature in the west were at work to bring this trio together. Sometimes, things just work. Sometimes, things just work unbelievably well. That was undeniably obvious the first time Brendan, Chris and Dana stepped into the rehearsal room together. Immediately recognizing their ability to write and play great songs together, Vacant City quickly started performing in their home base of Vancouver BC. With an uncanny ability for catchy guitar hooks and vocal melodies, Vacant City's sound blends great guitar riffs , steady drums and bass with great songwriting. Add to this an insane improvisational spirit that nearly always surprises their audiences as well as the band itself. They love to play and it shows. While mostly performing a hard-hitting electric set, the songs themselves give the band the ability to play acoustic versions, this leaves the band in an enviable position to play any size venue or to any crowd. In 2009, Vacant City decided it was time to hit the studio and began work on their debut full-length CD 'Forgotten Street'. Recorded and engineered by Mike Southworth (Scatterheart) , mixed and co-produced by Doug Naugler (Hybrama, Sweatshop Union, Gaye Delorme, Todd Fancey) and mastered by Craig Waddell (Sarah McLaughlan, Mother Mother, Aaron Pritchett). **The CD was offically released March 5th 2010** To promote the recent launch of the debut CD, Vacant City recruited the assistance of acclaimed director Douglas Thomson (Bif Naked, Pacifika, Manakin, Noise Therapy) to shoot the music video for the track 'My Everything'. *The video was released April 25th 2010* VACANT CITY: Ingredients: 3 lbs of Rock and Roll 2 fillets of Chilled West Coast 2 cups of Acoustic Seasoning 3-4 Sweet Musicians 2-3 oz of Jack Daniels 2 tablespoons of Fresh Songwriting 1 dash of Funky Juice 1 teaspoons Sweet Groove PREPARATION: Combine Influences of Rock and Roll, West Coast and Funky Juice and let chill. Once ready take above ingredients and add into large living room or rehearsal hall to marinade. Once the mixture is seasoned put directly onto hot club or stage. Add a couple of shots of Jack Daniels, stir in some Sweet Groove and let cook for 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on doneness level. Add dancing to taste. Best served with large amounts of fried crowd. Serves: 1 to 1,000,000,000 Suggested Portion Size: Lots

Who are your influences?
Everything from Led Zeppelin to Frank Zappa to Punjabi music with its cool beats. Killer Hip Hop, Jazz, you name it. Depends what mood we are in.
What is the first song you learned to play?
I think our first song as a band was 'Hunted' but I could be wrong.
One musician you wish you could meet?
Jimi Page, Eric Cartman, Tony Bennett
As a band or artist, what has been your biggest challenge so far?
What songs to play - We have too many and want to play them all!
How do you prepare for a gig?
We always remember what you do this for, remembering the years of blood sweat and tears and the feeling of sharing your passion with the world.
This rocks:
You and kicking ass while still respecting others.
This sucks:
War, being too broke to buy a Chicken Shawarma and gas prices.
